Early Life

Dr. Apurva Popat was born and raised in the small town of Veraval, Gujarat, India, in 1995. The town is famous for the Lord Shiva temple at Somnath, which is a popular tourist destination in the state. Apurva spent his early childhood in Veraval, where he attended Dalmia Public School and Aditya Birla Public School. From a young age, Dr. Apurva Popat was fascinated by medicine and technology and was always eager to learn more about it. He was particularly intrigued by the internet, which he believes has opened up endless opportunities for his generation to learn virtually everything from the comfort of their homes. After completing his early schooling in Veraval, Apurva moved to Rajkot to further his education. He attended the prestigious GK Dholakia School in Rajkot, where he excelled in his studies. He continued to show a keen interest in medicine, often spending his free time exploring the latest advancements in the field. Despite being from a small town, Apurva never let his background hold him back. He was determined to pursue his passion for medicine and make a name for himself in the field. He worked hard and finished high school with flying colors, earning him entry to medical school.

Medical School

Dr. Apurva Popat's journey through medical school began in 2013, when he earned admission to GMERS medical college in Ahmedabad based on his exceptional performance in the NEET-UG examination. During his time at the college, he was inspired by his anatomy professor, Dr. Viren Kariya, and quickly developed a passion for teaching. Under Dr. Kariya's guidance, Dr. Popat created his very first YouTube video about embryology of heart, which received high praise from his fellow students and instructors alike. Throughout his years at medical school, Dr. Popat maintained his excellent academic performance, consistently ranking in the top 10 among Gujarat University students. In addition to his academic success, he also began teaching basic medical science subjects to dental, physiotherapy, and nursing students as early as his second year. Dr. Popat quickly became a favorite among his students, who often preferred his instruction to that of the core faculty.

Dr. Apurva Popat's Journey to USMLE

Dr. Apurva Popat had always known that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine where he can practice evidence based medicine. After completing his medical studies at a prestigious medical school in Ahmedabad, Dr. Popat had landed a coveted internship at one of the city's top hospitals, Sola Civil. But despite his rigorous training and extensive experience, he found himself struggling to keep up with the latest developments in evidence-based medicine. As he worked long hours in the hospital wards, Dr. Apurva Popat often found himself wondering how he could become a better doctor. He was hungry for knowledge and eager to learn as much as he could about the latest breakthroughs and techniques in his field. And he knew that he would need to keep learning and growing if he wanted to provide the best possible care to his patients. One day, as he was poring over medical journals and textbooks, Dr. Popat had an epiphany. He realized that the United States was known for having some of the best healthcare in the world, and that the USMLE exams were widely considered to be the gold standard for medical education and training. Without hesitation, Dr. Popat began preparing for the USMLE exams. He spent countless hours studying and reviewing the material, immersing himself in the latest research and medical breakthroughs. And as he delved deeper into the world of evidence-based medicine, he began to see the value of the USMLE material not just for aspiring American doctors, but for medical professionals around the world. As he completed his internship and embarked on the next phase of his medical career, Dr. Popat felt confident and prepared, armed with the knowledge and skills he needed to provide the best possible care to his patients. And he continued to recommend that his fellow doctors and medical students read USMLE material, regardless of whether they were planning to take the exams themselves.

USMLEStrike - Dr. Apurva Popat's Dream

Dr. Popat started working on his dream, and in February 2022, he founded Med Strike Private Limited, with his sister, Dr. Ishita Popat as CEO, and Chandrakant and Urvashi as shareholders. The company's mission was to create a platform that would help medical students prepare for their exams in a more efficient and effective way. The team worked hard to create the perfect platform, and after months of hard work, they launched USMLEStrike. The app was an instant success. Students all over the country were excited about this new resource, and the app quickly became the go-to resource for medical students preparing for their exams. The app had many unique features, including practice exams, live chat support, and a first-aid based videos. The app was designed to be easy to use, with a user-friendly interface that made studying a lot more enjoyable. The positive response was overwhelming, and students couldn't stop praising the app. The pass rate of students using the app was nearly 98%, which was a remarkable achievement. Dr. Popat was thrilled with the success of his venture, and he continued to work tirelessly to make the app even better. Dr. Popat had big plans for USMLEStrike. He wanted it to be the cornerstone resource for medical students all over the world. He knew that there was a huge need for a resource like this, and he was determined to make it a reality.

Despite the challenges, Apurva excelled in his studies and quickly became known for his academic achievements. He scored an impressive 261, 259 and 247 on his USMLE Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 exams, respectively. He was also one of the authors of seven published research articles, which gained him recognition and respect in the medical community. During the interview season, Apurva received an enormous positive response, and he was finally matched at the Marshfield Clinic Health System in Wisconsin, USA, for his residency in Internal Medicine. It was a dream come true for him. As a resident, Apurva continued to teach his students for USMLE exams and loved teaching his co-residents. He was amazed by the evidence-based medicine that was practiced in the United States, and he was determined to provide the best patient care possible by keeping up with the latest research and innovations. Apurva also appreciated the focus on patient-centered care in the US medical system, where physicians work with patients to develop personalized treatment plans. He felt that this approach led to better outcomes and a more satisfying experience for both patients and healthcare providers. Despite the long hours and hard work required of him as a resident, Apurva was energized and inspired by his work. He knew that he was getting ready to train the physician of the next generation, and he took this responsibility very seriously.
